Slum Village is a legendary hip-hop group from Detroit. Founded in 1996 by rappers T3 and Baatin and producer Jay Dee, who became known to the world primarily as J Dilla. Over the years, the group has collaborated with artists such as Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, D'Angelo, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Kurupt, and Q-Tip. The trio debuted in 1997 with the unofficial release Fan-tas-tic vol. 1. Another cult item, Fantastic vol. 2, saw the light of day in 2000, followed by more material. Over the years the line-up went through personnel changes, with J Dilla leaving the line-up in 2001 and Baatin also passing away in 2006. For several years, J Dilla's younger brother Illa J also filled the ranks of Slum Village. Slum Village is currently made up of T3 and Young RJ.
