The Italian doom metal trio Ufomammut was formed in 1999, brandishing a uniquely psychedelic and sludgey take on the genre that enveloped heavy riffs with a dose of disorienting soundscapes unlike anything in metal before. After debuting with 2000's hypnotic Godlike Snake, they moved in an increasingly aggressive and complex direction, incorporating long-form, conceptual songwriting; they have since released eleven more albums, the latest of which is 2022's Fenice, which saw Ufomammut augment their sound with dark, dubby electronics and more prominent vocals.
