About Karel Růžička Jr.

Karel Růžička junior, born in 1973, is a player on the saxophone, composer and producer, son of the pianist and composer Karel Růžička. From the five years he studied piano and flute, and later appeared in the game Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, through chick Corey, Horace Silver, Weather Report, and many others from the collection of his father.

He studied at the Prague Conservatory and the Conservatory of Jaroslav Ježek between 1989 and 1993. In 1994, he was selected for the scholarship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Instead of going to Boston but in 1997 decided to go to New York, where he studied saxophone and composition privately with Bob Mintzera and Joe Lovana.

The debut album "You know what I mean" in 1997, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Czech Republic and became a jazz album of the year. The last album "Moods of Brooklyn" from the year 2004 saw a great success. Currently playing in New York jazz clubs with George Benson, Ravi Coltrane, Roy Hargrovem, Ben e. King and others. It is also a member of the band legendarniho zpevaka americkeho Michael Franks and devotes himself to the young generation in teaching music program for children.
