About Khoiba

Khoiba is a Czech music group that combines the sound of electronics and melodic guitars with downtempo rhythm to create an exceptional atmosphere. Khoiba itself describes its style as “atmospheric pop full of melancholy and positive emotions.”

Khoiba was formed in 2002 after the departure of singer Ema Brabcová and guitarist Filip Misko from the band Roe-Deer. The line-up is completed by Petr Šámal (bass guitar), with Jan Malich at first and later Yonathan Omer aka Drumkid (drums) behind the drum kit. At the beginning of the year Yonathan Omer is replaced by Honza Janečka from Southpaw. However, the drummers are never members of the band, they are only guest musicians. Currently all band members are exclusively engaged in Khoiba.

On May 5, 2008 Ema Brabcová decided to leave Khoiba, Filip Míšek and Petr Šámal decided not to continue their activities under the band's name. At the end of 2010, Ema Brabcová returned to the scene with her own project Luno, with which she released the eponymous album Luno. Filip Míšek continues his solo project Dikolson and in April 2011 releases the album The Bear Is Sleeping Now.

On 14 January 2017, the group announced on their Facebook profile the return of Filip Míšek and Ema Brabcová. In 2017, a new single Stoke the Fire was released on Minority Records, and another single Log was released in 2019. The third studio album was released under the eponymous title Khoiba.

The creation of the fourth studio album began in 2019 shortly after the release of the previous album at the cottage. Although the pandemic caused a hiatus in work, both artists found time to develop their individual projects. Filip worked on his second solo album Unbelievable Friendship and Ema started to focus more on experimenting with “boxes” and loopers. They then reunited in the fall of 2021 to continue work on an album, which would be released on April 4, 2023 under the title Vertical Urgencies.
