For the Vesna project, Mariana Sadowska has joined forces with German percussionist and electronics specialist Christian Thomé to create an ever-changing collage of ancient Ukrainian folk songs and contemporary electro-acoustic sounds. Their assortment of instruments, from harmonium to Jewish harp to laptop, intertwine with Mariana's powerful voice, in a programme suspended between here and there, glued together by ancient roots, guided through uncharted territory, travelling through curious bodies of sound. Vesna is an east-west acoustic road movie: a meeting of cultures in poetry and melodies that tells the story of the confrontation of love and death, despair and hope - always in search of freedom and identity.
