About We Lost the Sea

The music of We Lost the Sea is post-rock with elements of ambient, prog-rock and sludge blending melancholic and dynamic elements. The band was formed in Sydney in 2007 by young musicians fascinated by Isis, Mogwai and Sigur Rós. The band debuted in 2010 with the album Crimea recorded in cooperation with Magnus Lindberg, guitarist of Cult of Luna. Two years later, the album The Quietest Place on Earth was released, but its successes and good reviews were overshadowed by the suicide of one of the band's founders – vocalist Chris Torpy. The band suspended, but finally decided to record new material in tribute to their deceased colleague. The album Departure Songs was released in the summer of 2015 as an instrumental concept-album about the tragic fate of heroic people who sacrificed their lives for the good of humanity or in the name of progress. The album gained incredible publicity and made the band join the world's leading post-rock bands. The album delighted not only the fans of the mainstream, and the YouTube screens are counted in millions.

In autumn 2019 the album Triumph & Disaster was released, which is a return to the previous achievements of the group. Powerful sound based on strong riffs is interwoven with more subtle moments. The main theme of the album is the vision of the fall of civilization seen through the eyes of the mother and son who spend the last day on Earth. It's a soundtrack to the end of the world, a story about destruction and tragedy.
