ADAMASTOR is the latest piece by Luso-Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Ambrozio for the company GAPP (Grupo de Artes Performativas da Performact), a new experimental company that aims to bridge the gap between training and professional activity in the performing arts.

Celebrating the 450th anniversary of the poems Os Lusíadas by Portuguese writer Luís Vaz de Camões, the piece presents the sacred and pagan symbolism of the text and its elements, focusing on the value of challenges and overcoming obstacles. It reminds us of the courage and strength of people who once, when faced with personal and professional challenges, redefined themselves and overcame them to achieve something greater. The special value of this overcoming of challenges is expressed in this work.

The Adamastor, presented in a physical dialogue between the young performers of GAPP and their personal Adamastors, seeks the audience's identification with real and everyday situations as well as their playful projection.

The dancers move in practical and dramatic actions with breathtaking acrobatics and dizzying partner sequences. Ricardo's choreography is known for its physicality with an artistic language based on strong animal influences and impressive scenography. The dripping water on stage represents a parallel to a sinking ship, an analogy to our society today that cannot withstand war, disease, inflation, etc. How should we behave in the face of this - fight to the end or give up?
