Venue description
The Berlin Museum of Medical History is situated on the site of Charité in Berlin-Mitte and is famous for its pathological-anatomical collection. The collection includes a culturally and medicinally relevant stock of around 750 wet and dry preparations, that are shown in the permanent exhibition „Tracking Down Life“ besides models and pictures from central medicinal spaces. Furthermore, there are temporary exhibitions taking place that deal with medicinal topics in their historical dimensions and contemporary context.
The museum that is visited by around 90.000 people per year is a popular place for events. In the ruins of the former auditorium of Charité today lectures, discussions, workshops and festive receptions take place.
The museum of Charité was founded as „Pathological Museum“ by Rudolf Virchow in 1899. He equipped it with more than 23.000 preparations until 1901. Some of them are still shown in the exhibition today.
