Founded in 1990 by Nattefrost and Nordavind, Carpathian Forest is a name that listeners of the darkest variety of extreme metal do not particularly need to be introduced to. For nearly 35 years, the Norwegians, with their rather lively black metal, often played at medium and slow tempos, have earned the title of one of the top bands in the genre, as evidenced, for example, by their collaboration with the Avantgarde Music or French Season of Mist labels. The band has performed at major metal festivals such as Brutal Assault, Hellfest, Inferno and Mystic, and has played tours alongside Behemoth, among others; they have five studio albums to their credit, and their most recent release is the 2018 EP Likeim.
