The Boy Bitten by a Lizard by Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, one of the greatest painters in history, and more than forty canvases by artists from Italy and Northern Europe of the 16th and 17th centuries will be on view as part of the Caravaggio and Other Masters exhibition. Among the paintings presented will be works by such artists as Lorenzo Lotto, Battista del Moro, Domenico Fetti, Dirck van Baburen, Matthias Stomer, and Jusepe de Ribera, among others. All the canvases come from the collection gathered by Robert Longhi (1890-1970), Italian art historian, author of fundamental studies on Caravaggio’s oeuvre and curator of exhibitions devoted to it, one of the most eminent experts on the subject. The collection is currently owned by the Robert Longhi Foundation (Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell’Arte Roberto Longhi), based in Florence.
