Clannad (derived from the word "clan", in Greek "family") was formed in 1970 by the siblings Moy, Ciarán and the Brennan Fields and their uncles Noel and Pádraig Duggan. Shortly afterwards, the band already had 6 members after it was joined by Enyia Brennan, who at that time was also successful in her solo career. The award-winning band undoubtedly did more than any other group to convey Irish music and Irish language to a world audience. Combining elements of traditional Irish music with more contemporary folk, new age and rock, they have created an exceptionally unique and ethereal sound. The combination of nostalgic melodies and hypnotic vocals is timeless and at the same time appeals to world audiences of all ages.
