Whatever Happened to Sarah Bernhardt's Leg is the first part of a triptych in the series Theatrical Anatomy, alongside What Happened to Marlene Dietrich's Face and What Carried Christopher Reeve Away, in which Justyna Wielgus and Justyna Lipko-Konieczna will examine the damage to the body in its relationship to the theatrical, non-theatrical and theatrical. The triptych asks the question about the possibility of transgression in the subjective, rather than objective, treatment of the body and embodiment in theatre. The case of the lost and lost leg of the great theatre diva Sarah Bernhardt, damaged by an accident on stage, becomes the starting point for the story of different legs, those already walking on it and those still waiting for their stage entrée. Following Sarah Bernhardt's lost leg, the leg that becomes here the protagonist and guide, the authors weave a story about the difficult love relationship between actor, actress and stage.
