From November 2, 2022 to January 23, 2022 Dawson will be performed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

This ballet performance, created and developed by the renowned choreographer David Dawson and the Staatsballett Berlin dancers, is nothing less than a reflection on the state of humanity. During one of the pandemic's darkest days in January 2021, Dawson and his cast undertook an introspective journey, allowing a group spirit of trust to materialize in the safe, shielded, and protected environment of the rehearsal studio.

David Dawson used Max Richter's composition VOICES as its musical foundation. The musician spent many years studying the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, paraphrasing its first line in polyphony: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. His scenic compositions are inspired by these words, which contrast the depressing context of the current state of world affairs with his own future vision of a more just and equitable society.

The choreography CITIZEN NOWHERE by David Dawson is presented alongside this piece. His solo work from 2017, shows how the solitary existence of being a human is the most precious thing in the world. Even if one is surrounded by a million people, they still experience their own pain. They still experience their own truth, their fear, and their joy. No one can experience those things for them. The music for this solo piece was created in close collaboration with the Polish composer Szymon Brzóska.
