Dlina Volny, a brut-pop trio from Minsk, uses the motoricity of drum machines, classic synths and post-punk bass parts in their sound to add a new dimension to the traditions of the new wave genre. “Dlina volny” means “wavelength” and was given to the project out of a fascination with the physics of sound and sine waves. In Dlina Volny’s compositions, elegant sound synthesis is surrounded by a brutal rhythm section, building a background for the singer’s contralto. Her voice floats above the instrumentation like fog over the wet pavements of a dystopian, post-Soviet city on a cold autumn night. Lyrically, Dlina Volny moves on the border of dichotomies; passion and fear, hope and despair, euphoria and suffering.
