An atypically light-hearted lecture at Warsaw's Worek Kości. Tales of Warsaw ghosts, stories of ghosts roaming the city's cobblestones, frightening and amusing at the same time. The tale of the capital's ghosts will be presented by Warsaw guide Arkadiusz Żołnierczyk, a man who knows everything about old Warsaw.

In the past, believing in ghosts was easier because knowledge and technical progress were less advanced. Meanwhile, it turns out that advances in science have not reduced the need to believe in paranormal phenomena. One of the last Warsaw stories about a haunted place was born in the 1980s and there were many people believing in it and making attempts to verify it. During the meeting, participants will learn about places in and around Warsaw considered, to a greater or lesser extent, to be haunted. As stories about hauntings are rooted in tragedies and bloody deeds, it will also be possible to hear about dramatic events.

The most famous ghost in Polish history materialised in Warsaw at the end of the 1660s, and the materialisation was so real that the phantom gained influence on the staff of the royal court, two aristocratic families owed to it a significant rise in their position in the aristocratic hierarchy, and the Republic almost became a Protestant country. Phantoms of yesteryear also heralded the arrival of great catastrophes, such as the one in 1708, whose appearance is described in detail in the books of the Brotherhood of St Benoit. A counterpart to Aokigahara, the Japanese suicide forest, can also be found in the Warsaw area; the place is also considered haunted by the local community. Until recently, a lady haunted Nowogrodzka Street, in the gate of one of the tenement houses, currently undergoing renovation. When it is finished, it will be possible to verify whether female footsteps and a pearly laughter can still be heard on Nowogrodzka Street, even though the figure cannot be seen. In the Old Town, late at night, we can still encounter the ghost of a nobleman waiting in one of the streets with a flaming cheque in his ghostly hand. Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, the inhabitants of the inner city avoided one of the streets because it was possible to see the ghost of a hanged man or a ghostly procession. The residents' fears were so great that information about them was reflected in the pages of the not at all tabloid press.

For adult guests only. This event may only be available in Polish.
