Korean Gallery presents a cosy, homely space expressing the life philosophy of its inhabitants. What is important, the exhibition combines 19th century design with contemporary Korean design inspired by tradition. Divided space – Woman/Man. The gallery symbolically presents two spaces – saranbang, male part and anbang, female part. The division of the Korean house is connected with strictly defined social roles in patriarchal society. The arrangement of objects presents the functions of the interior such as work, meals, toilet and reflects the Confucian idea of moderation. Traditional beliefs penetrate into interiors in the form of symbols of happiness – carp, butterflies, bats – reproduced in ornaments.

The majority of the Korean collection consists of wooden furniture from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, precisely made and carved and decorated with metal fittings. The whole is complemented by antique and modern ceramics, decorative elements and contemporary furniture made of metal and plastic inspired by traditional design. Korean Gallery is the largest collection of artefacts from Korea in Poland.
