“Sokolov? For me personally living pianist number one, in all respects extraordinary personality. It is a little miracle that he will come to Ostrava.” With these enthusiastic words, JFO director Jan Žemla brings Russian pianist Grigoriy Sokolov closer.
He’s a very serious pianist who just plays. After the concert, he bows and leaves. He is fully focused on performance. His special requirement is that on the day of the recital (he has not been performing with the orchestra for a long time, he feels not only repertoire restrictions) he must have the hall available for himself all day. Here he prepares, alone and focused. At the same time, he requires a top piano, which must not be older than five years. A special feature is that Grigorij Sokolov does not specify the repertoire in advance. He is known up to a month, sometimes less, before the show. Formulation: The program in action is thus inseparably linked to it. The hall is always sold out. It goes to the artist!
“Perhaps he is the only pianist I am willing to go across Europe, just to hear him. I had the opportunity several times, he never disappointed me. I have been striving for it for a long time for Ostrava, ” Jan Žemla looks forward to the exceptional production.
