The commissioned new work Hidros 9 (2022) is an in-depth exploration and continuation of the previous work Hidros o.T. (2019), commissioned by NyMusikk Trondheim, and will address the mirror-like forms and structures associated with Mathias Pöschl's visual works. Controlling 3 different groups of instruments (a 9-member chamber ensemble, a group of soloists and electronics), the conductor will be able to use 3 different types of graphics and conducting models, adapted to the specific content of the graphics. The rules and elements of the playing will be set by the composer and performed live by the conductor in an 'Instant Conducting' situation, where tempo, dynamics, density and other musical parameters will be controlled by predetermined conducting rules.
What will give the piece its special shape, character and profile is the meeting of traditional instrumentation and tradition with new technology - all in an instant conducting situation and in concert with the soloists' interactions. All the graphics will be visible on stage - both to the musicians and to the audience. Many layers of interaction and new musical perspectives, forms and frictions will be applied in Hidros 9. All of this in conjunction with graphic scores and works by Austrian artist Mathias Pöschl and games and compositions led by Mats Gustafsson.
