Hugar is the joint musical project of Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson – two multi-talented instrumentalists, composers, producers and childhood friends. Their latest album is due for release in early 2022. The poignant and piano-driven single Lost is driven by an ethereal synth rhythm. Its grace and beauty is accompanied by IV a rare track that consists almost entirely of spacious, elegant piano lines. Both tracks indicate that their new album brings a balanced, contemplative blend of ambient electronics, meditative strings and contemporary neo-classical elements that encompass a wide range of themes, but were born from a simple but profound observation in their native Iceland. Inspired by the fault lines running through Þingvellir, a national park 40 km northeast of the capital, the band thought about what happens when everything falls apart. Songs. Ideas. Even whole countries. For them, the void that forms is fertile ground for new ideas and new beginnings - the rift as a source of creativity and a life-giving force.
