As part of the special exhibition Illustrious Guests – Treasures from the Kunstkammer Würth at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin, exquisite works from the Kunstkammer Würth will be presented on a large scale.
So-called Kunstkammers had their heyday in the 16th and 17th centuries and served at times for representation, the cultivation of diplomatic relations and as capital investments. In the 18th century, important Kunstkammern were dissolved or merged into other collections, of which Reinhold Würth (*1935) collected numerous objects.
Around 70 objects will provide a representative insight into the Würth Kunstkammer, including the ivory Laokoon by Leonhard Kern (c. 1630) and the golden Minerva by Tiziano Aspettis (16th century). Likewise, problematic aspects of collections will be clarified.
