On its premiere in 1666, it was seen as a satire on the Parisian salons with their snobbery and hypocrisy. But Molière included in the work a universal question about the meaning of the title character's attitude. What is Alcest's misanthropy: an uncompromising commitment to truth or a doomed rebellion against social conventions? And can love cure misanthropy? The role of Alcest is played by Grzegorz Małecki.
