Legends and ghosts of old Prague

In the good old days, there were different ways to entertain oneself. One of them was the blind man's holiday, when people gathered in a dark room and scared each other by storytelling, mostly by topics from their surroundings. Prague particularly excelled – one would hardly find other city where so many strange things happened. Cinema, the amusement parks and gramophone replaced the oral storytelling at the beginning of the 20th century. Fortunately the new generation brought romantic writers to help to save the Prague's lore. During the last days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Josef Svátek, Julius Košnář, Popelka Biliánová, Oskar Wiener and many others so called “Prague’s Andersens” ran around Prague to collected legends in writing to keep them for eternity.

Nowadays these mostly scary stories are testimony of old times. People can experience the period of the stories collecting on their own skin with Eva Nová who will guide them in the role of an art nouveau writer and collector of Old Town stories and legends. Practical information:

• The meeting is in front of the main entrance to the Estates Theatre, by the statue of a sitting figure in a hood.
• The walk lasts 100 minutes and ends at Dlouhá třída tram stop near the Republic Square.
• Groups are up to 15 people, (number excluding children under 6).
• The walk is also suitable for children.
• Comfortable shoes are reccomended.
