Search daughter, offer mother. MADRE is a play about love and longing, about dating and commitment, but also about their venal value.

The play tells about a very special relationship between a mother and a daughter.

The daughter has achieved everything in life. She is strong and successful and a pro at creating images of a happy life. She runs a huge advertising agency. There is only one thing she lacks: a mother.

The mother, on the other hand, lives in narrow circumstances. Since she has been widowed, she has more time than ever. For a daughter, anyway. And her small pension could also use a boost. So the mother turns to the daughter with an offer she can't refuse. Against all odds, the two form an atypical family in which one embodies what the other lacks.

Director Réka Kincses' production by Mallorcan playwright Marta Barceló humorously reflects on how relationships between people are formed, what characterizes a family, what is expected of certain kinship relationships, and what effects a feeling of abandonment or loss of family can have on someone. A play about the unexpected effects of capitalist logic, deals with love, and the invention of new formulas for personal relationships.

Note: The play is performed in German with Spanish and English surtitles.
