Masego, or really Micah Davis, is a Jamaican-born singer and trained musician. He started playing in a local church band. His official fan was Kaytranada, and his stage image is compared to Pharrell Williams. His music is a combination of deep soul-jazz compositions and trap atmosphere. To the self-described “TrapHouseJazz” genre, Masego brings humor and sensitivity while adding instruments that seemingly don’t belong there, such as the saxophone. His latest album Studying Abroad is another example of thoughtful compositions at a very high level. It signals a moment of personal growth and broadening of horizons, both in and out of music. Masego continues to work on music for himself and others, laying the foundation for being more than just a stage artist.
