Neko Case is back. On 1 June her new and seventh album Hell-On will be released on Anti-Records.

Five years have passed since the release of Neko Case's last solo project, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You. Nevertheless, it was not silent around her in the meantime. In 2017 we were able to hear her on the album of her band The New Pornographers and in 2016, she collaborated with K. D. Lang and Laura Veirs for a project.

Hell-On is a well-accessible but though challenging record. It appeals with self-critic, reflection and Neko's unique, poetic sensibility. She produced half of the songs on the album together with Björn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John), besides, there is features with Beth Ditto, Mark Lanegan, K. D. Lang, AC Newman, Laura Veirs and many more.

While Neko stayed at Stockholm for the recordings, her house in Vermont burned down. Instead of breaking down in hysteria, she used her emotions for the song Bad Luck and tried to concentrate on her music and the beautiful things in life despite the personal loss. She occupied herself a lot with literature from the ancient world and the role of the woman in the course of time during the recording process. “I'm writing fairy tales, and I hear my life story in them, but they're not about me,” Case says. “I still can't figure out how to describe it. But I think that's why we make music or write things. You've got to invent a new language.”

Hell-On is an album that carries one away like a natural force, fills one with love but also triggers anger. Neko thematizes the personal conflict about the possibility to lose everything in one moment. Not without good reason, Pitchfork describes Neko Case as one of the greatest and most ambitious songwriters and musicians, since 20 years in the business. In November, the German fans will be able to dive into her passionate music again and get seduced by her new sounds.
