Orfeo et Euridice (Orpheus and Eurydice) is a classic of the operatic repertoire and is staged by the Italian star director Damiano Michieletto at the Komische Oper Berlin.
Orpheus, with the all-enchanting power of his song, succeeds in appeasing the hosts of the underworld and wresting the beloved Eurydice from Hades. Now, under penalty of her final death, he is not allowed to look at Eurydice on her way back to life. Eurydice, tormented by the desire for a glimpse of her beloved, asks Orpheus for a proof of love, so that he dares to take the fatal look back.
