A gem of world comedy in a truly grotesque style. The wealthy Agafia Tikhonovna is not a typical paramour full of romantic elation; she simply wants to get married to raise her social status. This mercurial view of marriage is also close to the numerous competitors for her hand, a gallery of perfectly portrayed male types: buffoons, liars, losers and klutzes.
The intrigues of the matchmakers, the rivalry between the rivals, the anxieties of the main character and the unexpected finale—productions of Marriage have always given room for the most outstanding of the outstanding. Female roles were played by Ćwiklińska, Kwiatkowska or Seniuk, while male roles were played by Brusikiewicz, Gołas, Michnikowski, Kobuszewski, Pokora and Janusz Gajos. It was the latter (Koczkariew staged at Warsaw's Teatr Powszechny in 1995) who directed this comedy of manners for the Och-Teatr.
