Screenplay based on Thomas Bernhard's Der Theatermacher, an ironic reflection on the condition of the acting profession.

Who is an actor – a priest of the arts or a jester? The play's protagonist, a distinguished theatre artist and great megalomaniac, arrives with his family in a backwater village in the provinces to play a show there. This becomes an impulse to reflect on his life, achievements and the essence of his profession. Paweł Miśkiewicz's production will evoke the ghosts of theatre – it recalls a Scena na Świebodzkim production from a quarter of a century ago, Krystian Lupa's memorable take on Bernhard's Immanuel Kant, with outstanding roles by Krzesława Dubielówna and Wojciech Ziemiański, who also star in the Miśkiewicz premiere.

In Lupa's grotesque production, the famous philosopher travelled aboard a transatlantic liner to America, where he was to undergo an operation to save his sight. Immanuel Kant never left Königsberg. If Mrs Kant was looking at the sea, it may have been just a sliver of the Baltic.

Mrs K Looks at the Sea is a play about the nature of theatre, its transience, impermanence, seductive beauty, but also its cruelty, infidelity and apparent reality. It is also a story about the world and the people who make up this imperfect universe. A world of apparent values, without fixed points of support, capricious and full of violence.
