Poczuj: Wystawa studentek i studentów warszawskiej ASP

Another instalment of the fruitful collaboration between the Botanical Garden and the Faculty of Design at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts – the exhibition 'Feel'.

This time, the works on display were created at the Communication Creation Studio of the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts, led by Professor Ksawery Piwocki and Dr Jakub Marzoch. Classes at the Communication Creation Studio involve the use of content and form as tools for creative expression on a given topic. The design exercises are given in the form of open, non-obvious slogans to be developed, and the medium of communication is chosen by each student individually. They encourage the identification of problems in a personal way, the adoption of research-based working methods and authorial execution.

This past semester, the topic issued for development was Smell. […] The sense of smell and the phenomenon of fragrance became the focus of the whole group's activities. Smell plays an important role in interspecies communication. The botanical garden is a perfect manifestation of this. It is a natural enclave located in the middle of Warsaw, where organic compounds that regulate the exchange of information in the world of plants and animals are released on a daily basis. We are talking about processes that can easily be overlooked by humans without proper training. But it is enough to strain the senses to smell the aromas that are the resultant of these phenomena. The air full of aromatic notes vibrates, oscillates. A space filled with fragrance is always active. This phenomenon is also particularly important in human life.

The projects collected at the exhibition address the issue of emotions, memories, relationships with the environment, people and oneself. They encourage dialogue about smell, help to experience and describe the world through smell, and foster a broadening of awareness and experience. Our exhibition is an excuse to stop for a moment, to use the sense of smell, to immerse yourself in smell. Feel! - Dr Jakub Marzoch
