Kersti is a storyteller-performer shaped in a culture of writing and a singer embedded in an oral musical tradition. Her project of performing Poetic Edda draws on a diverse tradition of epic singers – manaschi from Kyrgyzstan, pansori from Korea and pandvani from India. In all these traditions, the first listener plays a very important role – the musician, the percussionist, someone who “warms up” the storyteller to tell/sing the story and is someone who mediates between the performer and the listeners. This stage concept creates a strong dynamic and committed relationship between the performer, the listeners and the rhyming epic. This time the role will be played by Polish storyteller and musician Łukasz Szypkowski. Kersti has worked with both the Old Norse melodic version of Edda, and searched for its rhythmic equivalents in Norwegian and Swedish.
