Ran by the Poznań Heritage Centre, the Porta Posnania is a cultural institution dedicated to presenting, interpreting and promoting the history and heritage of the Poznań island of Ostrow Tumski, the site of the city's cathedral and a settlement that was one of the first political centre of the newly-forming Polish state in the Early Middle Ages. The main exhibition of Brama Poznanska is multimedia in nature and does not contain exhibits in the museum sense. The facility plays the role of a "heritage interpretation centre": it is intended to facilitate visitors' contact with the cultural heritage of Poznań's Ostrów Tumski. It tells the story of Poznań Cathedral Island's past using the senses of sight, hearing and touch, from the period of the formation of Polish statehood during the early Piast monarchy to the present day.
