Roman Kramsztyk excelled among the painting greats of Paris, although he could not complain about the lack of recognition in Poland either. He made several dozens of portraits of the representatives of the Warsaw artistic elite. A graceful portrait of Lechoń or a humorous portrait of Szuster are in dramatic contrast with his drawings from the ghetto. In the last weeks of his life Kramsztyk became a portraitist of nameless heroes, and his drawings, taken "to the Aryan side", a moving testimony of the extermination.
