A corruption-ridden country of thieves is plunged into fear - of power, of losing power. One of the theatre's funniest and cleverest comedies returns in a new version. Tadeusz Nyczek's fresh translation-paraphrase takes us from Nikolai Gogol's insightfully described tsarist Russia to contemporary Poland. And we are still laughing at the same thing - at ourselves. In the words of Mikołaj Grabowski, it is also a story about two almost realised dreams: of being someone better than you are, and of power. Who hasn't dreamt about that sometimes?
