Willemsen asks kindly, thoughtfully, cunningly, cleverly, wittily, full of little surprise coups. Well informed. And, above all, always different, depending on who is sitting across from him. That's how the jury of the Grimme Award justified the gold television prize for Roger Willemsen in 1993. The career changer began his television career in the early 1990s with the talk show 0137. The daily talk show was broadcast unencrypted by the pay station Premiere to arouse the interest of potential new TV subscribers. Production ceased in 1994. After that, the recording tapes disappeared for a long time in the archives of the broadcaster (now Sky). In cooperation with the '0137' producer Markus Peichl, the Deutsche Kinemathek has now been able to digitize an extensive selection of programs for the television collection and make them available to the public again.

130 broadcasts that were previously considered lost can be viewed in full length at our in-house Mediathek Fernsehen. Five viewing islands deepen the look at various recurring themes in 0137:

In the early 1990s, the reunified republic oscillated between rapprochement and coming to terms. Roger Willemsen talked about German-German issues with his guests on a remarkably regular basis. However, his show also included discussions about gender-equitable language, sustainable mobility, digitization and the dangers of nuclear energy.

Talks with TV celebrities were tabloid-like, while conversations with criminals and their victims were extreme. And in times when terms like body-shaming or male gauze had not yet been coined, Willemsen was happy to confront his female guests with questions that would cause a shitstorm today.

Roger Willemsen had interviewed around a thousand guests in 0137. Later, on ZDF, he took it a little easier with Willemsens Woche. But this Friday evening talk show was also broadcast live and saw itself as part of the television business as well as its intellectual overcoming. You can see a selection of 'Willemsens Woche' in a sixth viewing island.
