Spojrzenia 2021: Archiwum Protestów Publicznych
Conversation with Pamela Bożek, Yeva Hovsepyan, Agata Kubis, Paweł Mościcki. Moderated by Karolina Gembara.
Images from the border. People, cold, despair, hope, golden NRC foils, children in overalls. What can we learn from these few photographs from the forest? What do the recordings shot with shaking hands say? How to look at the official reports from Belarus? What can't you see in a state of emergency zone? * The talk will try to find answers to these questions. It will be possible to reflect together on the visibility of people who came to our part of the world hoping for peace and security now and in the past. Speakers will include people who photograph rescue operations in the forest, who work with refugee women, who write about the representation of refugees and, finally, who use their own experience of flight to reassemble the image of the refugee in our minds. After the meeting, the gallery invites you to a new art and culinary space run at Zachęta by artist Pamela Bożek and the Słuszna Strawa collective.
- Pamela Bożek (b. 1991), artist, human rights activist and feminist. Graduate and doctoral student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Founder and member of the Notesy z Łuków project-collective together with Zaira Avtaeva, Zalina Tavgereeva, Liana Borczaszvilli, Makka Visengereeva, Khava Bashanova, Ajna Malcagova. Together with Ala Savashevich and Iwona Ogrodzka she creates an informal group Boundless Assistance supporting people with migrant and refugee experience in Poland.
- Yeva Hovsepyan - student of the Jacek Kuroń Multicultural Secondary School for the Humanities, member of the Youth Council of the Rescue Foundation, volunteer at the Polin Museum, cooperates with the Institute for Social and Economic Equality in the field of education. The main character of the photograph by Tomek Kaczor awarded in the World Press Photo competition.
- Agata Kubis, born in 1977, street photographer and photojournalist. For years, she has documented events connected with the feminist, LGBT, and freedom communities. For 5 years, she was a member of the Replika magazine editorial team. A regular contributor to OKO.press. A member of the Archive of Public Protests.
- Paweł Mościcki - born 1981. Philosopher, essayist and translator, assistant professor at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the Franz Kafka University of Muri. He is interested in contemporary philosophy, various arts (literature, theatre, cinema, visual arts) and critical political discourses. Editor of the volume *Maurice Blanchot. Extreme Literature_ (2007) and author of the books: The Politics of Theatre. Essays on Engaging Art (2008), Godard. Passages (2010) and The Idea of Potentiality. The possibility of philosophy according to Giorgio Agamben (2013), We too have a past. Guy Debord and history as battlefield (2015), Photo-constellations. - Karolina Gembara - Photographer, researcher, author of participatory projects with refugee and migrant people. Graduated in international relations and journalism, studied art history, photography and cultural studies. Graduate of the Sputnik Photos Mentorship Programme, PhD student at the Kieslowski Film School. Member of Sputnik Photos and the Archive of Public Protests, author of photographic publications, lecturer.
No registration required, but due to the epidemic situation and the sanitary regime of the gallery, the room can accommodate a total of 60 people. The limit does not apply to people with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Presentation of the vaccination certificate is voluntary. The public is encouraged to make use of this opportunity and asks to prepare the document in advance (QR code).
