The Sportmuseum Berlin is situated at Olympiapark and hosts the biggest sports collection in Germany with more than 100.000 objects, a photo collection with around 1,5 million pictures as well as a library with about 37.000 volumes of sport historical literature from three centuries.
It emerged from several collections in Berlin in the tradition of the Museum für Leibesübungen Berlin, that was closed by the national socialists in 1934.
At the house of German sports the museum shows rotating touring and special exhibitions about diverse topics of sports history in Berlin, Germany and the whole world. The museum offers guided tours through the exhibitions, project days for schools, special visits to the depot and guided tours at the Olympiapark Berlin with its sports-, architectural- and art historically interesting sites and buildings.
The museum is closed until 2024 due to a fundamental redesign and the associated renovation work. Research in the library, photo library or archive, as well as enquiries about the collection and outgoing and incoming lending are still possible by prior arrangement in writing or by telephone. Special events will also continue to take place.
