Conductor Lydia Tár is at her absolute creative peak. She has been conducting a prestigious German orchestra for the seventh year, preparing the publication of a book and the performance of Mahler's Fifth Symphony, which is to be the highlight of the musical season. Lydia appears confident, self assured, dominant and powerful. However, under this seemingly solid mask hides a normal person, with fears, insecurities, desires and needs. While with the conductor's baton in hand, Lydia is sure of every decision she makes, when she leaves the orchestra, she often loses her footing. Sometimes only slightly, but other times completely fatal.
