The painting oeuvre of Teresa Pągowska has been considered a unique phenomenon in contemporary Polish art. Her painting is based on the foundations of colourism, abstraction and new figuration. The artist uses abbreviations, silhouetted spots. She invites the viewer to an individual reading of ambiguous content. In her paintings there recurs the figure of a woman shown in various situations, placed in conventionally treated interiors, shown in an emotional, often intimate way. Pągowska has repeatedly explained her choice of motifs: _What occupies me most deeply is the human figure – Not only because of the richness of form. I think that it is a human being who contains the most magic in terms of content. The figures born on my canvases are not limited to a single existence. Sometimes I have the impression that I give them freedom of action – curious how they will behave in a new situation. Her painting is a beautiful, sensual story about the world and life, full of tension, drama and poetic imagination.
