The oldest philharmonic ensemble operating in Poland after the Second World War – it has existed since December 1944. Wojciech Rodek currently holds the position of General Director. In December 1944, the Lublin Chamber Orchestra was organized, transformed in 1946 into the Municipal Philharmonic in Lublin. The first Director of the Philharmonic was Jan Widmański, and the permanent conductor and artistic director, its former organizer, Zygmunt Szczepański. The Lublin Philharmonic Orchestra consists of 83 musicians. It performs a diverse repertoire ranging from baroque music through classicism, romanticism, to contemporary music, makes many radio and television recordings and records.
