Visiting Wilko after 15 years, Wiktor, looks through his own memories and tries to reconstruct himself. The meeting with women from the past confronts him with the emptiness and aridity of his own existence, the experience of war deprived him of the ability to experience his feelings. In the play, however, the title maids - the sisters of Wilko - are not just a phantasm of femininity and the protagonist's projection, they gain their own voice and identity.

Agnieszka Glińska and Marta Konarzewska consciously appropriate Iwaszkiewicz’s narrative and give the floor to the female characters in the story. We see Wiktor through their eyes, and we also find out how the passing of time has altered them. Where does life begin and end? When do we decide about ourselves? What are personal freedom and our life-altering decisions? Agnieszka Glińska’s play weaves Iwaszkiewicz’s story into these questions in our day.
