Rainer and Nadine move with their 12-year-old daughter Doreen into a new house. The previous house had to be abandoned because its owner had other plans, and the current one, bought on credit, needs urgent renovation. This is done after hours by Rainer, who himself works for a small construction company. After years, he is finally promoted to a managerial position. Unfortunately, the new tasks exceed his competences, but not his professional ones, only his human ones. He is unable to accept dishonest practices and wants to be loyal to his colleagues. However, these are not desirable qualities in a world where capitalist relations extend not only to labour relations but also to social ones. Rainer's professional degradation will shake the foundations of his family's existence. This, in turn, will affect the relationships of its members, especially the father with his growing daughter.
