Brass Federation is a proper brass-band. The band draws on the tradition of New Orleans brass-bands, but consciously, like the voice of their instruments, looks forward and plays not only tradition but also musical novelties. The Federation's founder is brass-maniac Piotr Wróbel, trombonist, sousaphone player and composer, who has enlisted his excellent brass friends to join the group. Brass Federation plays compositions by the leader and compositions by practically all the musicians in the band. Like any self-respecting brass band Brass Federacja often plays in the streets, with a series of events including Summer Parades – musical walks with instruments in hand, during which they warm the heart of the capital city with their playing on summer afternoons. There is also a tradition of Brasskoteka – open-air disco where instead of a DJ the party is cranked up by the Brass Federation. This started and usually takes place under Poniatowski Bridge in Warsaw, where Brass Federation musicians used to spend their weekend evenings and nights. Whole boulevards used to be entertained at these events. Brass instruments, thanks to their mobility and volume without the use of electricity, make it possible to play virtually anywhere – and so Brass Federation played on a bus advertising Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, on rickshaws in Nowy Świat, on the Warsaw underground, on a catamaran in Gdańsk, in the sea (during the Last Day of Summer festival in Kopalin) and even at basketball games.
