Venue description

The Rococo palace with unique underground spaces forms part of the Old Town Hall complex. The building was built between 1771 and 1772 on the site of an older Baroque palace building built on the site of two medieval townhouses. The basement of the southern part of the western wing of the Apponyi Palace (1761 – 1762) and the perimeter walls of the ground floor are the remains of a medieval house, which preserves the atmosphere of the then cellars. On the ground floor and in the basement of the Apponyi Palace there is an exhibition of viticulture. Temporary exhibitions, events and educational programmes are also held on the premises. The Old Town Hall and the Apponyi Palace form a museum complex that can be accessed through both buildings.
