Czechoslovakia, 1960s A provincial town suffers from a shortage of men because the only workplace employs mainly women. This poses a serious problem for the authorities, as young girls not only see no chance of starting a family, but also have no one with whom to go dancing at the weekend. As a result, seeing no future for themselves, they flee to larger cities. The authorities seek to locate a military unit in the town, which they finally succeed in doing. Unfortunately, when the soldiers arrive, it turns out that they are advanced reservists. Andula and her friends are disappointed. At the organised party, they allow themselves to be invited to dance and put on wine, but do not take their partners seriously. Against the background of the wheezing, pot-bellied reservists trying awkwardly to pull the rings off their fingers, Milda, a pianist from Prague, seems like a character from another world. Andula falls in love with him at first sight and lets herself be led to her hotel room after the party. She experiences the first love of her life. She is convinced that Milda feels the same way and when the boy leaves for Prague, she follows him, happy to give him a happy surprise. However, a disappointment awaits her.
