Born in 1980, in Jerez de la Frontera, Mercedes Ruiz is the reference of her generation in the commitment to evolution within the classicism of flamenco dance. Her training has been fundamentally self-taught, going to the most important teachers and, above all, learning from them on stage. Thus, with only seven years she already worked in the Company of Manuel Morao y Gitanos de Jerez. Later, and as a trained bailaora, Mercedes Ruiz successively entered the companies of Antonio El Pipa, Eva Yerbabuena and Adrián Galia: three different artists from whom Mercedes was looking to forge her personality. A personality that was already appreciated by the jury of the XVI Córdoba National Contest, which awarded her the Antonio Gades Prize.
In 2002 Mercedes Ruiz began her solo career. That year she made her debut with Andrés Marín at the Seville Biennial, where she received a Giraldillo Award. This award prompted her to form her own Company in 2003, premiering her first show, Dibujos en el aire, at the Jerez Festival. Her next show, Gestos de mujer, premiered far from home: at the Lyon Dance Biennial and was performed in other important theaters in Europe and America.
In April 2018 she premiered Tauromagia, Choreography for the work of Manolo Sanlúcar at the Cusset Theater (France). And later she takes this same show to the 2018 Seville Flamenco Biennial and the 2019 Jerez Festival, where he obtains great critical and public success.
