About Ostrava New Orchestra

ONO, or Ostrava New Orchestra is an international symphony orchestra for new music, created to provide the Czech Republic with a contemporary music orchestra which it urgently needs and comprised of 85 European and American musicians aged 20 to 35. The idea first emerged at Ostrava Days 2015 and was met with enthusiasm by the festival audience and new music professionals. The creation of the ensemble has been driven by the ambition to bring together young people with a keen interest in new music: ONO aspires to become a highly professional symphony orchestra, with energy and sound to meet the demands of all genres of contemporary music. Ensemble members come from leading conservatories and universities in Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Bratislava, Oslo, Huddersfield, Berlin, Cork, Haag, Lugano, Madrid or Boston. ONO’s debut performance took place at Ostrava Days 2017 and included works by Iannis Xenakis, Phill Niblock, Salvatore Sciarrino, Morton Feldman or Olga Neuwirth, conducted by Carl Bettendorf, Owen Underhill, Petr Kotík and Bruno Ferrandis.
