Tomasz Stańko, born July 11, 1942 in Rzeszów is a Polish jazz trumpeter and composer. He started playing in the end of the 1950s. Joachim Ernst Berendt wrote about him that he was the first trumpeter in Europe playing free jazz. In the 1960s, he became a pillar of the Krzysztof Komeda Quintet, with whom he recorded masterpiece of European jazz, the album "Astigmatic".
