Tosca is a melodrama in three acts with music by Giacomo Puccini, performed at the Berlin State Opera.
The revolutionary-minded painter Mario Cavaradossi helps a political persecutor to escape, which makes his lover Scarpia suspicious. She believes she is being deceived with another woman. The unscrupulous police chief takes advantage of the jealous Scarpia to convict Cavaradossi. Scarpia then makes an offer to Tosca: if she gives herself to him for one night, he will release her lover.
