Venue description
The ufaFabrik is a self-managed cultural and living project in Berlin's Tempelhof district on the former studio grounds of Universum Film AG (UFA).
The international cultural center and commune were founded in 1979 after a peaceful occupation of the approximately 18,500 square meter site. Today, about 120 people work on the site, about 45 of them commune members who live there at the same time.
The site, which used to produce famous films such as Metropolis or The Cabinet of Dr. Cagliari, now houses a communication center with a focus on culture, ecology and social coexistence that includes a variety of facilities: Two theater halls, two cinema halls, an open-air stage, a children's circus school, a café, a school, a children's farm and more. The cultural program is a colorful mix of theater, vaudeville, dance, music, cabaret, readings and workshops for all ages with the aim of promoting cultural exchange.
Each year, the ufaFabrik Boulevard street art and environmental festival takes place on the grounds in early September. The annual festival Jazz Meeting Berlin is also at home in the ufaFabrik.
