VHS/Krypta Show

VHS/Krypta Show is a recurring film night at the Amondo Cinema that presents contemporary absurd cinema alternating with films from VHS tapes every Thursday at 20:00. The titles of the films remain a secret until the screening.

The common denominator of both kinds of films in the series is the unique atmosphere of the presented titles. A bit grotesque, a bit nostalgic, a bit B-movie and a lot of cinematic history. The host of the night is Paweł of the Krypta Absurdu project, which has been screening bad cinema in various Polish cities for a couple of years now. During a short lecture before each screening, he will outline the necessary context around the watched title, while after the screening he will ask the audience for their opinion and lead a conversation (not only) about the watched film.

Within the framework of contemporary cinema of the absurd, audiences will be introduced to productions that normally remain on the sidelines. Overlooked by multiplexes and most arthouse cinemas, they are becoming a hard-to-find commodity. Films containing absurdity in both the storyline and visual aspect will be presented. A special offer for fans of titles like Swiss Army Man or Rubber.

Every other week, expect screenings of movies from VHS cassettes. These films generally reached the peak of their popularity in the 1980s and 1990s and are now somewhat forgotten, having found their place in the nighttime programming on second-rate cable TV. Many of them are wildly atmospheric windows into other eras of cinema. Expect a young William Defoe, Charles Bronson on the trail of the Mafia, or a squalid puppet foreshadowing brutal horrors.
